The concept of an after death is a broadly believed idea across many religions and cultures.

Even though the understanding of this belief is dependent on religions and cultures, there are also non-religious and scientific perspectives to it.

Here are some major perspectives to the concept of afterlife.

Religious views

Christians, Muslims, Traditionalists and others see after-death as the immortality of the soul and a continuation of existence in heaven or hell depending on one’s deeds in life.

Religions like Hinduism and Buddhism view after-life as a cycling of souls through multiple lifetimes based on karma.

Spiritual traditions differ greatly but then, they have some concept of an afterlife existence.

Non-religious views

The Humanist and secular philosophies are of the opinion that some aspect of one’s legacy or memory lives on even after death but through other people and one’s life’s work.

The materialists believe that consciousness ends totally at death with no afterlife.

Scientific perspectives

This perspectives work only on empirical evidence, but then, there is an ongoing research into near-death experiences and contact with deceased loved ones that points at continued consciousness after death, though this remains inconclusive evidence.

Different theories in quantum mechanics and physics have a very tentative mechanisms by which consciousness could theoretically continue somehow after death, but there is no agreement from the scientific community yet that approves “afterlife” concept. Hence there is no scientific evidence, for this perspectives, there is nothing like afterlife unless proven.
