A fresh graduate of the Department of Quantity Surveying, Nnamdi Azikiwe University,Ifunanya Miracle, also known as Bliss, has tragically lost her life in a failed attempt to escape a prankster’s robbery on the school premises in Awka, Anambra State. Ifunanya’s friend, Peace, a student in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, who was also involved in the robbery, sustained varying degrees of injury and was rushed to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Ifunanya, during her studies, engaged in Point-of-Sale operations on the school premises. On Sunday, June 9, 2024, she closed her business for the day and boarded a tricycle with Peace to a destination. A passenger sitting beside them allegedly attempted to rob them of their valuables. In a desperate bid to escape, the two students jumped out of the moving tricycle, resulting in Peace sustaining injuries and Ifunanya tragically hitting her head on the ground, leading to her untimely death.

Among all the side hustles she does, she owns a POS business which she has ran for few years now.

Last week 11th June, precisely, Ifunanya went to the bank inside school (UNIZIK) to withdraw money for her Pos business. I am 100% sure it’s a huge amount.

On her way back, she boarded a Keke alongside other passengers but half way into their journey, one of them (guy) asked them all to surrender their phones and other valuables.

Nigerian economy is bad and nobody would want to loose anything because to replace may be hard.

Yes…I know I am one of those who always say, dont drag anything with a robber. If they ask you to bring anything, kindly give them and go with your life. Other items are replaceable but your life isn’t. This is where I would have blamed Ifunanya but to be honest, I don’t blame her anymore. “It could be that he wanted to rob and when he saw the outcome of his action, he changed the argument to pranking because of what happened.

The university community is in shock and mourning the loss of one of their own. The incident has sparked outrage and condemnation, with many students and faculty members expressing their anger and disappointment at the senseless loss of life. The university administration has confirmed the incident and promised to take disciplinary action against the final-year student who carried out the prank. The families of the victims and the prankster have held a meeting with the university, and it was established that it was a prank gone wrong.
